Record tourist year for Portorož and Piran

The Municipality of Piran exceeded 1,873,000 overnight stays in 2024.

Last year, Portorož and Piran celebrated a record-breaking number of overnight stays. The number of visits in December was equally impressive. 


Data shows the Municipality of Piran exceeded 1,873,000 overnight stays in 2024, improving last year’s results by approximately three per cent and a per cent better than the record year of 2019.

In eleven months of 2024, all accommodations in the Municipality of Piran recorded 1,817,898 overnight stays (2.5% more than in 2023). Almost two-thirds of stays were generated by foreigners, predominantly tourists from Austria, Germany, Italy and Hungary. In December, they recorded a further 55,000 overnight stays (22% more than in 2023). On an annual basis, the numbers show an increase of 3% compared to 2023.

The rising trend showed no signs of stopping in December 

From 25 December 2024 to 2 January 2025, Piran’s hotels, abodes and apartments generated 35,000 overnight stays, exceeding last year’s numbers by 42%. Almost three-quarters of all overnight stays were generated by foreign tourists. Most of them came from Austria and Italy, and others from Germany and Hungary.
